It's been a summer | Fat Cow Studio

Where did summer go?  It is almost time for my grandkids to go back to school in a couple of weeks.

I retired June 1st from a 37-year career as a drafter/designer with a large corporation.  I had enough of corporate life.

As soon as I retired, my husband had a total knee replacement.  He did great, it is just slow going.  I dedicated my time to his recovery and healing.  I managed to ride our horse, Maggie, and train on our horse, Meadow, who needs some manners.

While Steve was recuperating, I took over his job of checking cattle, feeding the livestock, and just basic ranching jobs.  I loved doing it and it will be hard to return those chores to him.

I started walking early in the morning before everyone was up and it was too hot.  I listen to podcasts, music, or just the songs of the birds and nature. It gives me a chance to center myself, give thanks, and start my day on a good foot.

I spent a little time in my studio.  I have discovered that I love creating barnyard animals!  I love bringing them to life with their quirky faces and organic forms.  AND I finally got an air conditioner that works in my studio.  Being 100 degrees outside and my studio being a metal building, it wasn’t too pleasant to be in for a long time.

A few weeks ago, Steve got very sick.  After rushing him to the ER, it was discovered that he had a very serious blood infection.  It was thought that it was from his knee replacement, but it was actually from an injury caused by a cow that kicked him a few years ago.  That trauma may have caused a “sleeper germ” to awaken caused by a weakened immune system.  The thought of surgery to remove his knee replacement and being in a wheelchair for a long time was devastating.  I asked for prayers from everyone I knew, including my hometown country church in North Carolina.  Prayers showed up big time!  He did not have to have surgery and after 5 days in the hospital, Steve was sent home with a PICC line.  I had to do antibiotic infusions on him three times a day.  I was so nervous!  I thought I was going to kill him if a tiny air bubble got in the line.  I was assured by my nurse friends that he would be fine.  Two weeks later, his blood is clear of the infection and the PICC line came out yesterday!  We both feel better.  He still has to take two more weeks of antibiotics and be extra careful with his arm and what he is around.  But Praise God he is better!

We also just purchased another horse! A beautiful paint named Stetson.  He is a sweetheart.  I can’t wait until I can have our grandkids ride our horses.  I am working on manners, getting along with each other, and just general training.  I am in heaven!

Summer is passing by quickly.  We didn’t get to take the grandkids anywhere this summer, but we had fun doing things around the place.

I am sad the summer went by so quickly, but I am looking forward to fall and cooler temperatures.  This year in Texas wasn’t too bad.  We had rain several times and even below temperatures.  I will take that all day long!

Until next time, turn off the news, stay positive, give thanks, eat cold watermelon, savor your early morning coffee, be nice and be blessed.

xoxo

Cindy
