When the Air Begins to Change

Every year about this time, I start waiting for it. That first morning when I walk outside and the air feels just a little different.

Here in Texas, fall doesn’t always arrive when the calendar says it should. Summer tends to hang around, stubborn and hot, long after I’ve decided I’m ready for sweaters, open windows and cool mornings.

But eventually, something changes.

The light gets softer. The evenings come a little earlier. The horses seem more comfortable standing in the pasture, and there’s just enough coolness in the morning air to make me linger outside a little longer.

Fall has always felt like a settling-in season to me.

I start wanting warm things—coffee in my favorite mug, blankets over the chairs, something simmering on the stove. I find myself slowing down in the studio too, paying more attention to texture, earthy colors and all the little things outside that eventually find their way into my pottery.

Maybe that’s what I love most about fall. It doesn’t ask us to reinvent ourselves.

It simply invites us to settle in and notice what’s already here.

And after a long Texas summer, I’m more than ready.

Come on, fall. I’ve been waiting for you

Until next time, and hopefully a little cooler, be kind to each other,

xoxo
